Welcome to Andrea Aste's Atelier, the “Whale’s Belly”

The Whale’s Belly is a place where all ideas are accumulated, elaborated upon and digested. A sort of Davy Jones’ locker of our conscience where odd and apparently incoherent things gather: treasure chests full of hopes, decaying shipwrecks of unfinished thoughts, galleons made of visions lost in the maze of our mind…

Everything amasses here, giving creation to an ideal city constructed of broken pieces of the past and fragments of memories, a magical place where eccentric and strange creatures live walking purposeless along narrow roads whose lamps are lit by fireflies.

You can meet an enchanting siren pedaling her bicycle to and fro while carrying a gramophone singing old charlestons. There's the weary prophet solitarily playing poker and a pegged-legged pirate with his pompous parrot stuttering Shakespeare. Just around the corner a deep sea diver with his diving suit filled with slowly swimming water coloured butterflies...

In the Whale’s belly impossible is just a colored tattoo on the harm of a cursed Dutch captain…

Never Say Its Name

"Non dire mai il suo nome" (Never Say Its Name) has been released, an original novel whose story develops through letters, poems and paintings.

“The touching and deep analysis of sentiments made by the prose alternating with poetry moves seamlessly from mind to heart. Several languages melting. The illustrations are part of the narrative and represent A more intimate snapshot of a sentiment of solitude which the author struggles against with the fragility of hope, apprehensive yet resilient.”

L'Auriga

“Never Say Its Name" is the first book of "L'Auriga" (The Charioteer), the new arts movement founded in 2007 by Gianluca Polastri & Andrea Aste. Presented at the Fiera del Libro of Turin, L'Auriga has a strong philosophical background, taking inspiration from ideas of Plato and Wittgenstein. L’Auriga, with its painters, poets and writers shares a new point of view on the arts.

A new book of the movement, a novel by G. Polastri, it's soon to be released.

What stars don't say

On June 22nd, at Rocca Cigliè, Cuneo, Aste’s new solo exhibition, “What Stars don’t Say”, will take place, in the suggestive scenery of the ancient Assunta Church. The Exhibit is part of “Ellisse” project, an artistic and cultural kermes that involves international artists: painters, performers, theatre actors and musicians.
